Anybody out there handy with dreamweaver? I have an old copy and it will no longer connect with my webpage. Can't figure out what's wrong.

All Advice appreciated.

   I am trying to link back up with my old web site. I am using FTP protocol and I am sure I have the proper host name, password and login name because I can type these parameters into another web portal and get to the site and look at the files (though I cannot manipulate the files) However, when i use these parameters in dreamweaver I get a cannot find the site error. Most disturbing.

Can't say I use it daily but I do use it weekly (weakly? ). Anyway, when you say "old copy", what version do you have? Has it been on the computer a while and you haven't used it? If so, try re-installing. If nothing else, try these forums. I have in the past and they got me past some hurdles:

This has been on my computer for some time, so I reinstalled it. Same problem. I already have a website out there which I can no longer modify. I am not trying to start a new website but hook back up with the existing website.

As an FYI. If you already have a site and you just want to make modifications, you should look into a product called Contribute (by Macromedia) IIRC it is about $100 - $200 and it is very easy to use and the HTML it produces is very clean.

IT is not quite as full featured as Dreamweaver, but it produces much cleaner code and does 90% of what most people need it to.

   Will this make modifications and additions that look like what is already on the webpage? Ie, if I copy a part of a page, like the navigation bar I put on the top of each page, will it be able to reproduce that on other pages?

What I would do is "copy" a page from within the rest of your site so you get the nav and all the "framework" of the page, then scrape out all of the content and replace it with what you are looking for.

I built Paul Woolson's site using this tool. It is really really easy to use once you have your "core" pages coded.

John, this is what I do for a living. I'll go work it out with you over the
phone until it's working if you'd like. Send me a PM. It's not too
technical, but sometimes you might just have a weird random box
checked by accident. Most of the time when I'm doing more dynamic
work with php and what not, a random box will have been checked that
throws the whole thing out of whack, lol.
